Ecoxys professional environment combines deep technical expertise with practical field experience. Our discipline leader for emission measurements has over 25 years of experience in engine systems and emission outputs – from marine diesel engines to gas turbines.
Ecoxys discipline leader for emission measurements has worked on issues related to emission outputs from both vehicle engines and marine diesel engines for over 25 years. For two decades at the Marine Technical Center in Trondheim (NTH/NTNU and Marintek), projects funded by marine diesel manufacturers, StatoilHydro, the Research Council of Norway, shipping associations, and environmental authorities were carried out.
This background gives Ecoxy a technical depth of understanding that is rare in the industry and ensures that our measurements and analyses are professionally sound.
Broad professional coverage in emission measurement and climate documentation
Accredited exhaust measurements from main and auxiliary engines on board vessels. ISO 8178-2:2021 and IMO NOx Technical Code. More than 700 engines measured since 2007.
ISO 8178 · IMO NOx TCAccredited measurements from gas turbines on drilling rigs and production platforms. ISO 11042-1:1996. Special expertise in offshore gas turbines from major suppliers.
ISO 11042-1:1996Accredited for verification of climate quota reporting since 2013. ISO 14065 and ISO 17029. Verifying about 40 facilities per year in land-based industry and offshore.
ISO 14065 · ISO 17029Measurements of NOx, CO, and PM from district heating plants, combined heat and power plants, and industry. The Pollution Regulation and the NOx Fund. Accredited services since the introduction of the NOx tax.
NS-EN standardsDevelopment and implementation of Predictive Emission Monitoring Systems based on neural networks. Data collection, model building, and documentation.
Neural Networks · CEMSClimate accounting and sustainability reporting tailored to CSRD, VSME, and ESRS. Strategic guidance for integrating sustainability into business operations.
CSRD · GHG ProtocolAll Ecoxy field engineers undergo an internal qualification program that ensures they possess the competence required for accredited measurements. The program covers:
Theory and practice of exhaust measurement according to ISO 8178-2 and IMO NOx Technical Code
Operation and maintenance of Horiba PG-250 and other measuring equipment
Safety training for work offshore and on board vessels
Report writing and documentation according to accreditation requirements
Field practice under the guidance of experienced engineers
Ecoxy assists shipping companies and operators in establishing the correct calculation basis for NOx emissions:
Actual vs. ISO 8178 load profile: Ecoxy assesses whether it is more accurate to use the actual operating profile instead of the standard ISO profile to calculate the NOx factor.
Measurement at four load points: 100%, 75%, 50%, and 25% load for main engines. Simplified requirements at 50% for auxiliary engines.
Source-specific emission factors: Establishment of emission factors for each individual emission point for increased precision in NOx reporting.
