Ecoxy has been an accredited and independent third party verifying customers' air emissions under the EU and NOx fund regime since 2008. In Norway, the Business NOx Fund works to reduce NOx emissions to meet Norway's commitments under the Gothenburg Protocol. Since its inception in 2008, the NOx fund has disbursed nearly 1 billion NOK in support for businesses in Norway to invest in green energy and reduce their emissions.

CH4 (methane) – the greenhouse gas that is more dangerous than CO2. According to the Norwegian Environment Agency, methane is considered the second most important greenhouse gas after CO2. Since methane can hold 84 times as much heat as CO2, it amplifies the greenhouse effect. When the UN climate panel states that methane today accounts for nearly 20% of human-caused global warming, it illustrates the importance of being able to control and reduce these emissions as well.

«The four sister ships from Havila Kystruten are the most environmentally friendly ships to ever sail the coastal route from north to south in Norway,» says Chief Engineer Bengt-Amund Norbye on Havila Polaris. «The ships have installed battery packs of 6.1 MWh per ship, which means they can sail completely emission-free and silently for up to four hours.» With their new ships, Havila Kystruten made history in 2022 when they became the first cruise line to sail into Geirangerfjord emission-free and silently.

"Emissions measurements and reduction of NOx and CO2 have long been on the agenda, where Ecoxy has been the leading player in the market for over 20 years. We notice that even though it is not a requirement to conduct emissions measurements of CH4 today, we see a clear increasing trend from our customers who want to be proactive and have control over their own methane emissions," says Kristine Sørensen, CEO of Ecoxy AS.

Within two weeks, Havila Kystruten receives a report from Ecoxy with accurate emission data of NOx and CH4 – an important basis for how the shipping company can optimize operations and further reduce emissions.
