The new standard specifies the requirements for verification bodies and describes how verification and validation of organizations' statements and reports should be conducted on a uniform basis – across different industries.
In the field of greenhouse gas emissions, such a method already exists. ISO/IEC 14065 specifies the requirements for verification and validation of greenhouse gas emissions. The success of ISO/IEC 14065 has shown that there is a need for reliable and standardized methods that are not limited to greenhouse gas emissions.
